Voyelle neutre, ni ouverte ni fermée, ni antérieure ni postérieure, ni rétractée ni arrondie; en français, le e muet :
• ... les représentations phonétiques des adjectifs féminins doivent être dérivées de représentations phonologiques qui se terminent par un certain phonème vocalique (...) « schwa ».
